Mrs Pope and her family enjoyed her centenary celebrations at Kooringa in Dobie where she grew up.
Receiving a letter from the Queen was a highlight of the day for Mrs Pope, as well as cutting a magnificent cake befitting a 100th birthday.
Following is a poem that Cassie Ryan wrote and read out on the day for Mrs Pope, which outlines some of her life:
Back in 1914
Where we all stand today
Mary Lewis arrived
On the 7th of May
Born to William and Maria
One of 5 Lewis clan
She grew up at Kooringa
Where her Dad worked the land
Unlike children today
Stuck in traffic on course
Her schooling commute
Was on back of a horse
She loved playing tennis
And dancing at night
And it was doing these things
She met the love of her life.
With her delicate backhand
A young man would fancy-her
Always dressed to impress
In a brand new green lancia
