This annual event has been played in Ararat for the last five years and has become a regular feature for the grade five and six students at primary schools across the region.
The competition is organised by the Education Department's sports coordinator Gary Davidson, in conjunction with the Grampians Hockey Association that is based in Ararat.
The GHA volunteer umpires were kept busy, having to officiate 20 matches on the day.
Well known hockey enthusiast Meri White did an outstanding job as chief coordinator, ensuring all matches were started on time and results collated as the last game was being played.
Teams from Willaura, Ararat North and Ararat West Primary Schools were in attendance with a special mention going to the Ararat 800 PS that put in a staggering six teams.
All games were played in good spirit and by the end of the day, each team had played four games of the round robin style competition.
The overall winning team of the competition this year was Ararat West One, which played consistently well throughout the day.
As a follow on to this event, the Grampians Hockey Association will be running a series of hockey clinics at the YMCA in Ararat starting on May 1.
The program, known as Hook in2 Hockey, is a Hockey Victoria sponsored initiative and will be run by GHA members and helpers.
Starting each Thursday at 4.30pm and running for one hour for five consecutive weeks, the program will focus on teaching basic hockey skills, build team playing experience and basically have some fun.
