$75,000 in community grants awarded

ARARAT - Ararat Rural City Council has allocated 21 community groups with more than $75,000 in the latest round of the Community Grants Program.

One of the big winners was the Willaura and District Development Group, which will receive $29,088 towards a $200,350 project, which will upgrade the Lions Park at the Willaura Recreation Reserve.

Council also allocated two special sponsorship amounts to youth projects, $500 each for the Ararat West Primary School Music Concert and the Central Connect Out of Schools Re-engagement program for a dry stone wall project.

Other projects to receive funding include:

Ararat Cycling Club flood recovery project, Road to Glory Event - $ 3,000. This project is to rebuild the flood damaged road to improve access to this facility.

Ararat Eisteddfod 2012 - $ 3,000.

Ararat Golden Gateway Festival - $2,000. Ararat Little Athletics Club high jump mat - $1,445.00. Completion of an equipment upgrade process the club has been undertaking for some time.

Ararat Show Society, Ararat Agricultural Show - $2,000.

Carey Street Kindergarten facility upgrade for provision of kindergarten - $6,000. Part of a larger grant project.

Elmhurst Golf Club purchase of new mower - $4,897.

Elmhurst Playgroup shade structure to cover outdoor play equipment and sandpit - $2,534.

Friends of J Ward installation of automated water sprinkler system - $6,171.

Lake Bolac Eel Festival Committee (sub committee of Lake Bolac Development Association), 2013 Lake Bolac Eel Festival - $2,000. Subject to additional funding application from Tourism Victoria.

Moyston CFA Endurance Ride fundraiser - $2,500. This event is only in its second year.

Moyston Public Parks, hearing impaired project- $3,036. This project will improve the acoustics in the Moyston Recreation Reserve facility.

St Andrew's Kindergarten, installing educational boards - $2,000.

Streatham, Mininera and Westmere Community Development, air-conditioning - $ 2,250. This activity will improve the comfort of the Fireworld facility in Streatham.

Willaura and District Development Group with Willaura and District Kindergarten, Willaura Harvest Cutout 2013 - $2,000. An annual community building event.

Willaura and District Development Group, stage three Willaura Water Project: town enhancement of public spaces, $29,088. This project is an upgrade of the Lions park at the Willaura Recreation Reserve. An initial project proposal has been approved by the Department of Planning and Community Development and a request to submit full application made. Application to DPCD requires matching 3:1 dollars and will be dependent on this grant.

Southern Farming Systems, Agrifocus 2012 - $2,000.
