Principal Kim Butler said the school commissioned Landsborough sculptor, Kevin Free to create a statue of St Mary in 2010.
"We wanted to create a statue to reflect the catholic identity of the school," she said.
"This way people driving past the school will see it and know that we are St Mary's."
Ms Butler said the school wanted the sculpture to be abstract, rather than a traditional representation of St Mary.
She said Mr Free suggested Mt Gambier limestone and that the school was thrilled with the result.
Ms Butler said the statue had been placed on its pedestal, which has been painted a deep red/brown colour.
The school held a ceremony to bless the sculpture.
