Chalambar bowl over Ararat in grand final

GBD - Chalambar is the Grampians Bowls Division division one champion after a convincing 49 shot defeat of the Ararat Bowling Club in one of the most one sided grand finals in recent history.

Chalambar and Ararat have met one another in several deciders over the years with tight results often the case, but not this time.

The Chally machine was in full flight and on a green that suits their game they were unstoppable on the day.

Chalambar won all of the four rinks in what was an excellent display of quality bowling.

Roger Young's team with Mark Griffits (3rd), Phil Hewlett (2nd) and Peter Dohnt leading had a tight game to start winning by just seven shots against the Ararat team skippered by the evergreen Graeme Robinson who performed well as a skipper in the finals after leading for most of the year.

Tony Carra with Gary Todd, Billie Waterston and Hans Holz won by 12 shots in a top performance against a team skippered by one of the best performing and most feared skippers in the Grampians Division, Richard Fisher.

Chris Young and his team which included Richard Harricks and Shane Davis had the best win for the day, cruising home against their opposition by 16 shots.

Shane Todd's rink with Grant Seeary as third was always going to be a challenge for whatever team that faced them.

Harry Wheeler played second as the quartet won by 14 shots to complete the clean sweep.

Chalambar now move onto the group game in the northern Wimmera with a spot in the best 16 pennant teams in Victoria up for grabs.

Chalambar moved into the grand final after a tight win against an Aradale outfit that had topped the ladder for most of the year.

The division two grand final was a replay of the first semi final with Stawell Golf Gold taking to the green against Ararat Gold.

Stawell Golf Gold snuck through to the grand final by only four shots thanks to a home green advantage.

It was always going to be harder when they faced Ararat Gold on the slick Ararat VRI green.

Ararat Gold found the line and speed of the green much more to their liking and won convincingly against Stawell Golf Gold.

Mikey Burrett with 13 shots was stunned by the talents of Lawrie Tonkin who bowled 35 in a magic display.

Kenny Greenberger flew the flag for Stawell Golf Gold with a two shot win, while Norm Duxon's team couldn't match it with Norm Talbot's crew that was on fire winning by 17 shots.
