Brownlow medallist Dane Swan has denied there was a culture of selfishness at Collingwood last year and has lamented the loss to Greater Western Sydney of teammate and close friend Heath Shaw.
Speaking on The Footy Show, Swan said that while he, Shaw and other members of the Magpie ''Rat pack'' might have gone about their preparation and football lives differently to their teammates, they had been no less committed to the Collingwood cause.
''I don't believe we were selfish,'' Swan said. ''You could see the way Heath was so passionate on the football field that he wanted to succeed. Me, 'Dids' [Alan Didak], the rest of us … I love the footy club and I'm still there.
''We tried our hardest … Some people might do different things, but we all had one goal and that was to succeed.''
