Draw will determine favourite in open InterDominion final

The favourite for the InterDominion grand final at Menangle will be decided by Monday's barrier draw.

Without a recognised superstar, the shootout on Sunday has been described as the most open InterDominion in 20 years. Miracle Mile winner Beautide has been favourite since betting began, but a poor draw could have him blow in the market.

"Beautide is still favourite at $3.60 because of what he has done in the past six months," TAB.com.au's Adam Hamilton said. "He deserves to be favourite, even though he got beat in his heat. I don't think you can take much notice of that because he was a victim of the wet track.

"However, he needs to draw well to hold the top of betting, if he draws wide or second line we will have a different favourite. I think any of the top half-dozen in betting could be favourite after the draw. It will significantly reshape the market."

Smolda, which was runner-up in the New Zealand heat last week, has been well supported in early betting and is $4.20 second elect. Fellow five-year-old Im Victorious won his heat in Perth to move to $6.50, while For A Reason is $8.50.

"It is going to be a different final than we are used to seeing because it is so open," Hamilton said. "When we had a horse like Im Themightyquinn, he would dominate.

"There is going to be plenty of moves over the 3009 metres and I'm sure plenty of drivers will want to draw well, so they can be close to the front, especially in the 14-horse field."

The fact that triple New Zealand Cup winner Terror To Love is a $10 chance shows the open nature of the race.

The InterDominion is the feature on a huge day at Menangle.
