Orchestra Victoria's Brass Ensemble returns to regional Victoria this month, providing audiences with a close encounter of the orchestral kind. Following a popular tour to the Bendigo region in 2013, the Brass Ensemble tour will perform in up to eight Victorian towns, visiting Ararat, Hamilton, Maryborough and Warrnambool for the first time.
Modelled loosely on the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble established in 1951 by English trumpeter Philip Jones, the Orchestra Victoria Brass Ensemble consists of four trumpets, one French horn, four trombones, one tuba and percussion.
The 11 players will showcase an eclectic repertoire of contemporary concert classics, brass standards and fanfares. This joyous, one hour concert, under the direction of principal trumpeter, Mark Fitzpatrick, will weave its way through five centuries of musical works; from Gershwin to Ravel, Sondheim to Tchaikovsky and Grieg and Calloway, to name a few.
"The opportunity for the Orchestra Victoria Brass Ensemble to travel and perform in regional areas is one of the highlights of our year," Mark Fitzpatrick said.
"The people we meet, the reactions we get to our performances and the warm welcomes we receive are fantastic. It is so vital to us to take what we do out of Melbourne, and share our love of music with regional Victoria."
Playing in intimate venues, the experience of these musicians is bound to make your spirit soar and is the perfect way to enjoy professional chamber music up close and personal. Make sure you don't miss this rare opportunity to hear the big brass sound of these Orchestra Victoria musicians in your own backyard. Entry is just $10, so grab your family and friends and get ready to enjoy a great night out.
Orchestra Victoria will perform at the Ararat Performing Arts Centre on Thursday February 27 at 7.30pm.
