The two-tonne Malibu speed boat was taken from a property on Finlay Street in Brown Hill some time between 10am and 11am.
The boat was on a trailer and has a waterskiing cage fixed to it and has a black cover.
It is believed the boat was sighted parked on the Henty Highway around 50km south of Horsham around 1.30pm this afternoon.
It is quite likely the boat was towed the distance of the Western Highway through centres including Ararat, Great Western and Stawell.
The boat was being towed by a red Ford Falcon ute.
Police believe it may possibly be heading towards the Warrnambool area and are urging anyone who sights the boat to report it immediately via triple zero (000).
Police have also released an image of the boat in the hope someone recognises it.
The registration of the boat is HY545 and registration of the trailer is Q28147.
Anyone with any other information about the theft is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
