The vacancy arose following the resignation of Ian Wilson in November 2013.
"Anyone interested in representing their local community is encouraged to nominate, however, prospective candidates will need to act quickly to ensure that they don't miss out on lodging their nomination," Returning Officer Andy McCann said.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to complete their nomination form online at vec.vic.gov.au before lodging it with the Returning Officer.
Nomination forms must be lodged with the Returning Officer at the election office, Ararat and Grampians Visitor Information Centre, 91 High Street, Ararat from this Thursday, January 9. Prospective candidates should contact the Returning Officer, Andy McCann, on 0458 390 540 to make an appointment.
All nomination forms must be correctly completed, include a nomination fee of $250 and be lodged with the Returning Officer by 12noon on Tuesday, January 14. Late nominations cannot be accepted.
This by-election is being conducted entirely by post. Ballot papers and voting information will be mailed to all eligible voters from Tuesday, January 28.
The successful candidate will sit on Council until the next general council election, which will be held in October 2016.
