The school is excited to be getting on board with the program and has already begun preparing for the beginning of the school year.
Students, staff and parents all eager to start getting their hands dirty have been creating new garden beds in anticipation of growing, harvesting and preparing their own fresh produce.
This year Lake Bolac P-12 College primary students will learn to build and maintain a garden according to organic principles and to grow and harvest a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs.
The students will discover the pleasures of hands-on food education, through regular classes in a productive vegetable garden and a home-style kitchen classroom.
The fundamental philosophy that underpins the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is that by setting good examples and engaging children's curiosity, as well as their energy and their taste buds, schools can provide positive and memorable food experiences that will form the basis of positive lifelong eating habits.
More than 450 schools around Australia take part in the program each year.
