The Neighbourhood House received $5000 through the Federation of Rural and Regional Renewal/ANZ Seeds of Renewal Program for a THREADS program - Teaching, Harmony, Respect, Engagement, Aspirations, Diversity and Society.
The aim of the project is to raise the aspirations and employability of young people, particularly those engaged in out of school programs.
Sewing and fashion was identified as a means of learning new skills and also as an opportunity for mentoring and community learning.
The aim is to engage an instructor to work with a group of young people on a weekly basis doing various textile based projects. The participants may choose to support a local fundraiser or charity and create items for sale.
The equipment will also be available to the community and the Neighbourhood House will invite community groups with an interest in textiles to connect with the young people as well as share their knowledge.
