ARARAT - It was bootcamp on the wild side on Tuesday night, when Diamond Life PT trainer Doug Abrahall was forced to hang on for dear life as his ute was almost flipped by wild winds at Kokoda Park.
Mr Abrahall said he was conducting a bootcamp session around 7.30 when 'all hell broke loose'.
During the boot camp session he watched as thunder and lightning brewed up across Ararat and decided to call off the session earlier than usual.
"There were two witches hats down the other end of the oval and I ran down there but the rain got heavier and heavier and it hailed and hailed and so I got in the ute, which was parked next to the clubrooms," he said.
"The next thing I know the ute was on two wheels and the tractor tyres were being blown out of the back."
"Because the ute was up high I thought it was going to flip, so I grabbed the side of the seat - it was a bench seat - and had to crawl up the top the angle (of the ute) was that bad."
The storm passed within a few seconds and although in a terrifying situation, Mr Abrahall said he didn't have time to be scared.
The ferocity of the storm was so great Mr Abrahall said while in the ute he could actually see the bricks being blown out of the walls of the clubrooms.
"I was watching as iron flew from the roof of Ararat Mitre 10 and watched as trees were demolished," he said.
"If you've ever seen that movie 'Twister' where the cow flies up in the air, it was like that with the tyres in the ute, they didn't fall out, they blew out of the back!"
