ARARAT - Ararat Legacy student representative, Bianca Gerrard has made the state final of the Legacy Junior Public Speaking Awards which will be held in Melbourne today.
Competing recently in the preliminary final at Bendigo, Bianca was one of three students chosen to go onto the state final and will compete with students from metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria.
Bianca, who attends Beaufort Secondary College reached the State Final both this year and last year and has gained much through the experience. This year she presented confidently at both the Ararat regional final and the Bendigo preliminary final and is looking forward to again being given the opportunity to present in a larger form and against the best student presenters in the state.
At Bendigo, for her five minute prepared speech, Bianca chose to present on the remarkable feats of well know retired AFL footballer, Shane Crawford and for her two minute impromptu speech on 'people's qualities' she chose to relate to Australia's Jessica Watson, a young 16 year old student who sailed around the world solo and is now using her experience to assist young people in the community.
The preliminary final presentations were of an exceptionally high standard by all nine students participating. As mentioned by the judges in making their decision, the three students chosen were in no order of first, second or third as they were all of such a high standard.
Ararat Legacy has been presenting annually the Legacy Public Speaking Regional Final Awards for a number of years now with Ararat College, Marian College, Stawell College, Lake Bolac College and Beaufort College all part of Ararat's Legacy region participating. The Club is pleased to be able to present this activity for students across the area, and are looking forward to supporting Bianca and her family at today's state final in Melbourne.
