ARARAT - A new group to celebrate Ararat's links with China has been formed.
Ararat Rural City Mayor Cr Ian Wilson has presented a certificate to Henry Gunstone, welcoming the formation of the newly incorporated Friends of Gum San association of which Mr Gunstone has been elected president.
Cr Wilson said he was pleased that the community had commenced this special interest group to foster Australian Chinese culture and history in the Grampians region while also supporting the work of the Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre in a positive way.
Mr Gunstone, well known for his extensive links with China and especially with Ararat's Sister City Taishan, said that the group is for liked minded people who wish to learn about Ararat's Chinese history and culture but also learn about China from others that have travelled extensively in that country.
He went on to say that anyone with an interest in China is welcome to join the Friends of Gum San and should attend the first annual general meeting next Monday with dinner at the Candle Restaurant Statesman Motel with a guest speaker relating to China.
The regular monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7pm in The Great Hall at Gum San.
