ARARAT - A continued downturn in sales has meant that Ararat manufacturing business, AME Systems has been forced to announce a further reduction in staffing levels through a redundancy process.
This has affected 45 staff at the Gordon Street site.
General manager Dean Pinniger said in July the company had to take the unfortunate action of reducing staff numbers working within the business as a result of a significant reduction in product orders as a consequence of the current economic downturn.
"With a continuing decline the company came to an agreement with staff to operate a four day week across the majority of the business in August and September in order to balance labour capacity to sales levels, as well as staff taking accrued annual leave," Mr Pinniger said.
"AME Systems reluctantly has had to make this further decision to reduce staffing levels however remains committed to staff, customers and suppliers and is managing through this time with a view to remaining a capable, reliable and sustainable business and a valued member of the community as a major employer of people across the region.
"The management will continue to conduct regular meetings with staff to fully inform them of any further developments."
