ARARAT - Following a nine month renovation phase David O Jones Mitre 10 Ararat has been transformed into a modern, more customer friendly retail outfit.
David O Jones Mitre 10 is a family owned business comprising David and wife Margaret, son Simon Jones and wife Rhian.
The family is well known in Stawell where David and Margaret have operated their current hardware business for 32 years, having been in the area since 1981, spending 41 years in total in both hardware and grocery businesses. The couple's son Chris is the owner of Horsham Mitre 10 while Simon entered the business full time in 1999 and Rhian worked in the business from 2005 until the birth of their children Eve and Ethan.
The Jones family took over Ararat Mitre 10 on January 2 2013 from Max and Bernadette Perovich, who owned and operated the business for over 20 years.
"We would like to thank them for all their hard work in preparing the business to make the transition as easy as possible," David Jones said.
"We would also like to acknowledge their tireless work in the community over the years and wish them the best in their future endeavours."
In addition to the extensive renovation program, the range of products has been massively extended and pricing reduced, while extra staff have been employed in order to provide increased customer service for the community of Ararat.
Mr Jones said buying Ararat Mitre 10 (now David O Jones Mitre 10, Ararat) was a natural progression in the expansion of the family owned and operated business. With Chris Jones already owning Horsham Mitre 10, and the proximity of Ararat to the existing Stawell store, the move made sense.
"The many similarities between the two towns made Ararat an obvious direction to expand and we believed that Ararat deserved better," Mr Jones said.
"We saw an opportunity to take a business in need of some revitalisation and we are enjoying the challenge of implementing this transformation.
"We hope to provide a retail store that keeps our customers in town and will continue to re-invest both time and money in Ararat.
"We are passionate about our business and our community, and the role and responsibility that small business has in the community. We are very keen to extend our proud history of community involvement in Stawell to the people of Ararat.
"Our aim is to provide the community of Ararat with a large product range at the right price, while placing a large emphasis on providing exceptional customer service."
Mr Jones said Mitre 10 will continue its history of employing locals, continuous training and providing a career pathway for the youth of the Ararat community.
"We are extremely proud of the amazing efforts of all of our staff, both in Stawell and Ararat, over the past nine difficult months of renovation. They have proven that anything is possible when you work as a team," Mr Jones said.
"We would also like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this period.
"We hope that this is the beginning of a great relationship with the community of Ararat and will continue to strive to improve our business into the future."
