REGION - The owner of a multi-million dollar website for finding services has chosen Stawell to expand his business and is now searching to fill several key positions from with in the Ararat and Stawell region.
'Service Central' is a national business that has been operating for nine years and connects the public with all types of tradespeople.
Business co-founder Danial Ahchow and his wife Marisa - who also owns an online business - have moved their young family to Stawell and are trying to grow the business in the country.
Mr Ahchow, who grew up in Ararat said he thought expanding the city based business into the country was a great opportunity to help the local community with five new jobs.
"We've been advertising the jobs online, social media and in the paper for three weeks, but unfortunately we've had very little response," he said.
"This is a shame because it seems people have been very proactive in coming out and saying there is a lack of work, but when it becomes available they aren't actually putting their hand up."
Mr Ahchow said despite recent negative attention due to actions of the Stawell Gold Mine and the loss of 20 jobs at the VATMI recycling plant the region had a lot going for it.
"We are trying to offer a positive news story for the region. It is an internet business so gives people a lot of flexibility and the chance to balance family and lifestyle like we can."
Mrs Ahchow added that so far they'd only received a couple of applications for the Stawell-based telephone sales team.
The jobs would involve telephone sales and speaking to tradespeople about coming on board, but Mrs Ahchow was quick to point out that it would not be like working in a call centre.
"Our dream has been to complement our dynamic sales team in Melbourne with an equally successful regional team, bringing jobs to the area that we've grown to love.
"We are confident that there are quality people out there who are looking for work and would be suited to these positions."
