ARARAT - At the 2nd Ararat Scout Group's annual report and presentation evening, Scouts presented a cheque to Diabetes Victoria.
The funds were proceeds from a talent night organised by the Scouts to support and raise awareness of diabetes, as one of their members is a diabetic.
Leonie MacDonald, diabetic nurse educator, received the cheque on behalf of Diabetes Victoria and provided some startling facts and figures on diabetes in Victoria.
Guest speaker, Cr Gwenda Allgood, provided some fascinating insights into the history of Scouting in Ararat, illustrated with frequent references to the involvement of her own extended family in its development, including the building of the Scout Hall, where the meeting was held.
The meeting was chaired by John Coghlan and reports were presented by the Group Leader Dani White, secretary Nicki Blackie, and treasurer John Wilson.
Also in attendance was the District Commissioner, Alan Preston, who expressed his admiration at the way the Group had grown over the past year and commended all those involved in this process.
Mr Preston also presented Michael Cook with his certificate of five years service as a leader and congratulated him on his new role as Scout Leader at 2nd Ararat.
