DESPITE downplaying any suggestion it might make the finals this season, Harrow-Balmoral sits outside the top five only on percentage after a big win over Taylors Lake at the weekend.
The Roos showed their improvement from last season with a 160-point win over the struggling Lakers, but coach Brent Forsyth said he was still not satisfied.
“It was a good hit-out for us after the week off but I had to address our back six at quarter time,” he said.
“I think they took it for granted that we were going to clear the ball pretty easily, but that being said, the Taylors Lake players were in the right spots at the right times.”
Lakers coach Ian McCulloch said his team’s 9.7 – its highest score in a match this season – was encouraging.
“It’s a shame they blew it out in the last quarter but we played reasonably well,” he said.
“I told our guys that we shouldn’t ever be satisfied with a loss like that but we’re definitely showing signs that we’re improving.”
Roo Forsyth kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Damian Van Someren and Tim Cogger kicked six apiece in Michael Phelan’s absence.
David Vickery chimed in with four of his own in a forward line that kicked 34 goals for the day.
Dean Harberger was a clear stand-out for the Lakers but will be absent for several weeks with an overseas trip planned.
Full-back Marc Davey also battled hard for the undermanned Lakers’ defence.
McCulloch pulled a hamstring but both sides remained relatively injury-free.
