WILLAURA - The volunteers involved with the 2013 Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal at Willaura are hoping for yet another success after last year's 'Fish and Chip Luncheon and Children's Fun Day' served over 300 meals and raised $11,000.
The Willaura community has supported the Good Friday Appeal for more than 28 years with the running of a luncheon and games afternoon.
The morning will start early for the volunteers who will set up equipment and prepare for a very busy few hours.
As in past years young people from the district will collect donations from around the township. They will have an official badge identifying themselves, and will only be collecting on Good Friday morning.
At the luncheon hundreds of meals are expected to be served, and the freshly cooked fish in genuine beer batter is loved by all.
Locals and visitors alike enjoy the activities on offer, especially the arrival of the Easter Bunny.
Willaura's own 'Pick a Chick' also delights the children. Made from a round wool table, margarine containers and paper chooks, it holds delicious little treats for the children, and they watch keenly to see which 'chick' they'll win.
Most children enjoy having their faces painted, the lucky dips will be as popular as ever, and the free jumping castle will keep them active.
The spinning wheel will be operating and organizers are grateful to the many businesses who donate goods for it. Without their support the event would not be the success it is.
The trailer loads of wood are usually keenly contested, and the committee is grateful to those who generously help out by supplying the firewood.
The event takes place at the Willaura Recreation Reserve, and begins at midday on Good Friday; March 29.
An adult meal is $15, secondary students $10, primary students $6, four and under free.
