Cr Woods resigns

ARARAT - Ararat Rural City Mayor Cr Ian Wilson has confirmed that Cr Murray Woods has officially tendered his resignation due to ill health.

Cr Woods' resignation was effective as of Wednesday.

Cr Woods was first elected to Council in December 2008, and was re appointed in 2012.

"While it is very unfortunate that Cr Woods is unable to continue his role as Councillor, Council understands his decision and we wish him all the best for the future," said Cr Wilson.

"Cr Woods has requested that people not contact him at this time, and we would request the community to respect his privacy.

"On behalf of Council I would like to thank Cr Woods for his outstanding commitment to our community, and wish him and his family all the best."

Cr Wilson said Council's chief executive officer Andrew Evans had written to the Minister for Local Government, Jeanette Powell, to advise her of Cr Woods' resignation, and this will result in a by-election process.

He said this by-election process will take approximately three months, and will elect an Ararat Rural City Councillor to replace Cr Woods.

The election date has been set for June 22 and nominations for candidates will close on nomination day, May 21.

The election will be a postal election.
