ARARAT - Despite the scorching weather the 2013 Ararat Legacy golf day was once again a success with a strong field of golfers turning out.
A field of 47 took to the fairways as the temperature reached the mid-30s, which saw a slight reduction in numbers for the annual fundraising event.
While the weather warmed up, some hot results also took place with last year's scratch winner, Matt Collins defending his title with a score of 73.
Collins name was again added to the Lin Harricks memorial trophy, named in honour of one of the inaugural members of Ararat Legacy.
Phillip Clark had the day's best handicap score on a count back with 85-17-68.
Clark received the Kevin Lewin Memorial Shield, which is named in honour of the long-time Legatee and Vietnam veteran.
Approximately $2050 was raised on the day which will go directly to assisting in the care of local war widows.
Organiser Terry Hinch said the barbecue and afternoon tea were greatly appreciated by all players and volunteer Legatees.
"Ararat Legacy would like to thank all golfers and our many loyal sponsors for their ongoing support of the event," he said.
The youngest player in the field, Tom Williamson almost pulled off the play of the day when his shot on the par three 18th went extremely close to a hole in one.
A local Legatee had put up $500 for a hole in one on the final hole and Williamson was less than an inch away from claiming the prize.
