ARARAT - Ararat Small Bore and Air Rifle Association veteran Graeme Powell achieved the ultimate maximum 20 metres score with the target rifle during last week's competition.
Powell finished the shoot with 100 and 10 centrals, which president Andrew Muller said was the only known maximum 'possible' at 20 metres at the club.
"We have guys that have been shooting at the club for 28 years and it has never happened during their time in Ararat," he said.
Ararat Small Bore member John Brown did shoot 100 with 10 centrals in a postal event a number of years ago, which was over 25 yards.
"There have been a few shoot 100 with nine centrals, but never 10!" Muller said.
"He got to the ninth central and he took a fair while to shoot the last because he had to steady himself. It is a difficult challenge. We would all love to shoot one."
Powell's impressive result earned him scratch honours, while the handicap winner was Gary Brumby who made the most of his large handicap.
Other excellent scratch scores were recorded by Muller on 100.4, Gary Keith on 99.5 and Raymond Sloper with a very neat 98.6.
