ARARAT - The Country Fire Authority is reminding people of their responsibilities during the fire danger period.
It comes after CFA crews were called to reports of a bonfire in the Norval Dam area at Norval over the Australia Day long weekend.
Operations officer with the Ararat CFA Ian Morley said a fire truck with six crew attended the scene and found an illegal bonfire taking place.
"Police were notified after fire crews deemed it to be an illegal bonfire," he said.
"During the Fire Danger Period, which we are in, people have a responsibility to meet certain requirements when they are lighting fires in the open.
"The people who were found to have lit this bonfire were not, and were spoken to by police."
