ARARAT - A young man with a passion for the performing arts has been awarded Ararat Rural City's Young Citizen of the Year.
At the Australia Day celebrations in Alexandra Gardens, Cr Ian Harris said Christopher Dempsey was selected because of his leadership, excellence of academic ability, and other associated achievements.
"This candidate has extended his commitment into the Ararat community by being involved within local theatre productions and is a member of the Ararat Musical Comedy Society," Cr Harris said.
"He has proven to be a strong role model and leader within his school community and as a senior member of school he was able to mentor younger students.
"He is highly regarded amongst his peers and is commended as someone of the highest of integrity and honesty."
Cr Harris said Christopher was an outstanding winner of the award and had achieved all the mentioned accolades with good humour, humility and a real sense of being part of a community.
