ARARAT - Hard working volunteers from Lake Bolac were awarded the Ararat Rural City Community Service of the Year award.
Speaking at the Australia Day celebrations in Alexandra Gardens, Cr Ian Harris said this year's award was for an organisation that had given outstanding service to the Ararat Rural City community over many years but especially in the last 12 months - the volunteers of the Lake Bolac Information and Business Centre.
"This group of dedicated volunteers continue to expand services that are currently being provided in a rural town," Cr Harris said.
"With the inclusion of a new library facility, additional community members put their hands up to do training and assist with providing customer service that will not only enhance the new library service but support existing businesses and community groups, especially during the struggle through recent years of drought and economic downturn.
"This group raised enough money to contribute to the overall budget to build the new library by their constant dedication and passion for the rural area.
"It gives me great pleasure to present the Community Service of the Year award to the Lake Bolac Information and Business Centre volunteers."
