MOYSTON - The inaugural Moyston Live Music Festival will kick off tomorrow at the Moyston Recreation Reserve and boasts some of the best live talent in Australia.
The festival has emerged out of the popular Ararat Live gigs held over the past two years, which were instigated by Ararat muso Dave Nicholson and held regularly at the Ararat Hotel Red Room and attended by a regular band of enthusiastic live music lovers.
Moyston Live will celebrate live music and will feature many of the artists Ararat audiences have come to love.
Headlined by Mick Thomas and the Roving Commission, the festival will also feature Carus Thompson and Band, Liz Stringer and Van Walker, Shaun Kirk Dirt River Radio, Tim Scanlan and The Mahony Brothers.
Shaun Kirk is recognised as one of Australia's most talented blues artists and is part of the brilliant line up for the Moyston Live Festival on Australia Day.
Although Shaun will be new to Ararat Live regulars, he is well known to Stawell audiences from his regular gigs at the Diamond House.
Having only picked up a guitar for the first time in 2004 at age 16, Melbourne born Shaun Kirk has achieved a great deal in such a short time. Discovering a gift for storytelling and an undeniable connection with the guitar, Shaun's career quickly progressed and he released his first CD 'Seagulls' in 2008. This was followed up by the release of 'Cruisin' in 2010.
Shaun takes the concept of a one man show to a new level with stomp box and other percussion accompanying guitar and blues harp combining to make for a full on blues performance.
St Kilda's Dirt River Radio (DRR), are fast becoming renowned for their 'Southern-drawled charm' and a live show that has even the biggest beer-haters craving for a pot of ice cold ale.
Several locals are already familiar with DRR after gigs at Ararat Live and the Lake Bolac Eel Festival but they are sure to gain more fans after their blues rock session at Moyston Live on Australia Day.
The Dirty's are headed by Heath Brady on guitar and vocals, who hair style is alone worth coming to see, and will pump out a driving set including songs from their latest album 'Rock and roll is my girlfriend' as well as songs from the 2009 release 'Beer bottle poetry'.
The day will be catered for by the Moyston Willaura Football Netball Club with food and drinks available all day. No BYO alcohol is allowed.
