ARARAT- Dress in the green and gold and dig out the Aussie flag, tomorrow is Australia Day!
Residents of Ararat Rural City are invited to participate in Australia Day ceremonies across the municipality.
In Ararat, celebrations will kick off at Alexandra Gardens at 8.30am with a free breakfast provided by the Lions Club of Ararat, with an official address by Australia Day Ambassador Don Abell.
Mr Abell is a well known racing identity, who was born in Melbourne and lived and grew up in Essendon.
Work at international chartered accountants' firm KPMG has allowed Mr Abell to participate in his keen interest of horse racing and he is responsible for the Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding practice within the firm and services a number of the world's largest racing and breeding operations in Australia.
He has served on the committee of the Moonee Valley Racing Club in a variety of roles and is also a former chairman of the Tasmanian Racing Board.
Mr Abell also races a number of horses. Although achieving the success of owning a city winner, Don is yet to have a horse good enough to win at listed or group level.
Mr Abell should provide a fascinating Australia Day address tomorrow at Alexandra Gardens.
Presentation of the Australia Day awards will commence from 10am and the day will also include performances from the Ararat City Band and Sing Australia Choir.
There will also be entertainment for the kids, so bring the family along and celebrate what it means to be Australian.
