Party pigs leave mess at Green Hill Lake

ARARAT - Members of the Green Hill Lake Development Board are shocked at the amount of rubbish left from a recent party of revellers at the lake.

Board president Gwenda Allgood said a recent party left the barbecue shelter in a mess with rubbish strewn around the site.

"And the thing is there was a rubbish bin not six feet away from the party," she said.

"We have a number of birthday parties out there, and while most do the right thing, not everyone does.

"The Green Hill Lake Development Board works tirelessly to prepare the lake as well as we have. When we went out and saw the mess we were absolutely devastated.

"Some young people don't do the right thing and that's really disappointing."

Mrs Allgood said many parties are held out at Green Hill Lake, and while the board is keen to see as many people use the lake and surrounds as possible, noisy parties often put people off staying there when party goers do the wrong thing.

"If you use a hall you have to pay a bond and clean it up. All we ask is that people clean up after themselves," Mrs Allgood said.

"You can have a party and have a good time without all the swearing and all the other things that go with that.

"We are keen to see the area used for anything but people need to take more concern for other people."

Mrs Allgood said the board hopes that people considering holding parties at the lake would do the right thing.

"Our members put in a lot of hours and a lot of campers help us out as well," she said.

"The $5 donation (from campers who stay at the lake) is great because it really builds up the bank balance so that we can do things like plan for the playground - it all goes back into the lake."
