ARARAT - RSL has continued its winning streak in the Ararat City Tennis Club summer pennant after snatching victory over Stan Hamilton and Sons on Saturday.
In a thrilling clash, RSL managed to regroup in the closing sets to record a 6-70 to 5-73 win.
The side is now sitting pretty at the top of the competition ladder thanks to several consistent performances.
Anne Marie Driscoll was at her brilliant best on the weekend and used her left handed shots to her advantage.
Kate Woodhams was another strong contributor and played well above her third ranking.
The RSL ladies were supported by Ron Wilksch who hit a number of winners with his chop shots.
Sam Hoffmann led the way for the losing side and showed the confidence and skill one would expect from a club coach.
Morgan Gason also had a fantastic day and combined well with his taller partners.
Spalding McCutcheon took on KFC in the second match of the round.
After a disappointing loss last week, Spalding McCutcheon was able to bounce back with a 5-84 to 5-76 victory.
Oakley Gason found consistency in his shots to help his team put points on the board, while substitute player Stuart Muller was a welcome addition to the Spalding McCutcheon line-up.
For the ladies, Carolyne Matthews played confidently against experienced opponent Nancy Bowen.
Bowen was one of the top performers for KFC and played numerous crafty shots to winning effect.
She was backed up by Claire Harricks who put her opponents on the defensive with every driving shot and served admirably.
John Hannett was the best of the men and recorded minimal losses for the day, however it was not enough to help his team escape with the four points
Next week's matches will see Spalding McCutcheon take on Ararat RSL in what should be a hard-fought contest, while Stan Hamilton and Sons will take on Christian's Bus Co.
KFC will have the week off as a result of the bye.
