ARARAT - Ladder leader Ararat RSL had no trouble accounting for KFC in round nine of the Ararat City Tennis Club's Summer Pennant competition.
RSL's 37-game victory, 94-57, gives the side a two-point lead over closest rival Stan Hamilton and sons as the competition heads into the Christmas break.
RSL got off to a good start in the men's singles competition with Jackson Bonher recording an easy seven-game win over Sam Gason, 9-2.
KFC's number one shook off the defeat to perform well in his doubles' matches, chalking up a win in one set as both went down to the wire.
Ben Pietsch partnered Gason in the victory, strengthening the partnership with commendable consistency and sensible ball placement.
RSL's Greg Gason also found success with his steady, patient returns, allowing his opponents to make the errors.
Thea Hinchliffe enjoyed successful returns all day as she filled in for the winning side.
Hinchliffe triumphed in both of her sets, although she came up against some stiff competition in KFC's Claire Harricks, who stole points with her strong cross-court drives.
With both sides equal on 14 points at the beginning of play, the match between Spalding McCutcheon and Christians' Bus Co could have gone either way.
Christians' managed to claim seven sets to Spalding's three, recording a 29-game victory 91-62.
Mark Helmich had Alex Drosg's measure in the singles' match, using his reliable backhand slice to neutralise every attack.
Spalding's number four player, Somi Sekaran, was prepared to chase every ball, no matter how wide.
Sekaran returned well to save a number of points and was a stand out for the side.
Christians' Peter Dunn also made an impression, using his chopping backhand slice to upset the rhythm of his opponents.
Pam White and Carolyne Gason performed well for Christians', while opposition player Tammy Mehan made the most of her opportunities for Spalding.
