ARARAT - The Ararat City Tennis Club summer pennant will re-commence this Saturday.
After a five-week break, teams will be well rested and eager to hit the courts for the second half of the competition.
Ararat RSL remains the side to beat after ending last year at the top of the ladder.
The team will be looking to notch up an early victory this Saturday when it takes on Christian's Bus Co.
While their opponents sit in third place and cannot be underestimated, RSL players will be confident of securing the four points.
Marcus Matthews will replace Justin Pelly for the second half of the competition and will slot into the the RSL outfit nicely.
Matthews and AnnMarie Driscoll will form a lethal partnership in the mixed doubles and may be too strong for the rest of the competition.
Christian's Bus Co players will rely on the experience of David Bohner to lead them into battle.
It will be a family affair when Bohner takes on son Jackson in the singles set.
The youngster has been showing tremendous promise and has developed a strong, attacking style of play.
While dad will have the experience, son will have the determination, which should make for an entertaining contest.
Josh and Marcus Matthews will continue the family theme when they clash at the number two position.
The womens' sets will see Christian's Pam White, Jacki Ralph and Jacqui Kiel take on Driscoll, Kira Payne and Claire Ralph.
Kate Woodhams could also make an appearance for RSL as a substitute for Ralph and will be a handy addition to the side.
RSL appears to be the stronger line-up but if Christians is on its game it could put the ladder leaders to the test.
If RSL loses it may have to relinquish top spot to Stan Hamilton and Sons which is hot on its heels.
Stan will meet KFC on Saturday and is expected to make light work of the match.
KFC is sitting on the bottom of the ladder after some disappointing performances late in the year and is in dire need of the four points.
It will have the opportunity to grab them in an upset but players will first need to shut down Stan Hamilton stand-out Sam Hoffmann.
That hard task will fall on KFC number one John Hannett.
Hannett has performed consistently all season and has been particularly impressive in the doubles.
He will need to fire on Saturday as Hoffmann has dominated the court throughout the season.
Hannett will have the support of Sam Gason who adds extra spark to the KFC line-up in the number two position.
Claire Harricks is known for her impressive drive shots and will play an important role in the ladies sets.
She will face up against Maryanne Harricks who is emerging as a vital player in the Stan Hamilton line-up.
Saturday's match looms as an important test for the the Stan Hamilton team which sits only two points behind the ladder leaders.
If it can get over the line it will set the tone for a fiercely competition second half of the season.
Spalding and McCutcheon will have to wait another week to get back on the court due to a bye this weekend.
