First clay target shoot attracts large field

ARARAT - The Ararat Clay Target Club held its first shoot for the year on Saturday.

The event marked the first round of the Tri Club Shoot held between Callawadda/Stawell, St Arnaud and Ararat.

Attendance at the shoot was strong with 34 shooters taking part.

The weather was kind despite being a little windy and a good day's shooting was had by all.

The first event was a 10 target point score eye opener cash divide.

John McVitty, John Corbett, Murray Gruar, Gary Hargreaves and Ashley McKnight all produced impressive results by shooting the possible 30/30.

The second event the Harris Family 25 Target Point Score Graded Championship.

Colin Dunn (104/105) finished as the overall and AA grade winner, while second place was awarded to Tim Hughes who scored 72/75.

First in A grade was John McVitty (103/105) followed by Gary Hargreaves on 91/93.

Graeme Lesley took top honours in B grade with a score of 85/87 to defeat Bill Jorgensen 72/75.

First in C grade was Tanya Perry 65/75 while Sno Perry (48/75) claimed runner-up.

The third event for the day was the Stuart Gillman Internationale 25 Target Graded Double Barrel Championship.

The overall and AA grade winner was Ashley McKnight with a fantastic score of 59/59.

Peter Tate was second after posting 58/59.

John Dohnt was victorious in A grade with 42/43 while Gary Pike (37/38) was second.

First in B grade was Ian Buchholz (34/36) who recorded a narrow win over David Lanyon (33/36).

The C grade winner was Tanya Perry with a score of 22/25. Sno Perry was second on 19/25.

The fourth event was a 25 Target Handicap.

Peter Falkinder was first on 25/25, Wayne Harris finished second on 31/32, Gary Pike claimed third on 30/32 and Peter Tate finished fourth on 29/31.

The High Gun for the day was Gary Hargreaves (151/155).

For those attending the Ararat Clay Target Club's next shoot, the Jackpot is currently up to $168.

This shoot was the first round of the Tri Club Challenge, shot over six meetings between Callawadda/Stawell, St Arnaud and Ararat Clay Target Clubs.

Round One totals are as follows:

Callawadda/Stawell 723/775; Ararat 700/775; St Arnaud 695/775.

The Off the Fence was won by Ashley McKnight.
