LAKE BOLAC - Lake Bolac Secondary College students, together with staff, parents and community members recently completed the annual Mountain to Lake activity.
Instigated in 1986, students ride, run or walk from Halls Gap to Lake Bolac, a 91 kilometre journey.
In the lead up to the event Leading Senior Constables Paul Kelly and Shane Allgood headed to Lake Bolac Secondary College and delivered a bike safety lecture to both primary and secondary students.
Approximately 60 students attended the 30 minute lecture, which students found very informative.
2008 was the first year in which the police have been involved, with four members of the local force meeting students in the main street of Halls Gap to accompany them on the ride.
Those involved included Leading Senior Constables Paul Kelly and Shane Allgood, while Senior Constable Steve Bice and Constable Joseph Anderson also made the journey.
A total of 26 students joined police and volunteers for the ride, while another 30 students and community members participated in walking or running some of the way.
Those walking and running were divided into groups and completed the journey like a relay event, repeating their legs all the way to Lake Bolac.
Police also provided and manned a support vehicle which was utilised by participants requiring rest.
Mountain to Lake co-ordinator Roger Flanner hailed the event a great success and thanked the community for their participation.
"On behalf of the College I would like to thank the police and College community for their support, Safeway Ararat, and also all the staff, students and community members who participated,'' Flanner said.
