Outdoor pool the place to be

19 Jan, 2010 08:10 AM
ARARAT - Lifeguards at the Ararat Solar Olympic Outdoor Pool have been kept on their toes over the school holidays.

Last week's extreme temperatures saw both locals and tourists flock to the water in a bid to beat the heat.

Pool manager Travis Peatt said numbers at the pool had been consistent over the school holiday period.

''We have been pretty busy on the really hot days,'' he said.

''We have probably been averaging between 30 and 40 people per day.''

While the pool opens at 10am every day, Mr Peatt said the busiest time was in the afternoons.

''Most people get there in the afternoons and sometimes stay until pretty late,'' he said.

''We get a few people in the mornings too but later in the day is normally the busiest.''

Mr Peatt said the pool has been closing anywhere between 7pm and 10pm depending on the numbers of people using the facilities.

Students on school holidays have been taking full advantage of the extended opening hours, as have visitors to the area.

Mr Peatt said staff had reported seeing a number of tourists since the beginning of summer.

''There have been quite a few different faces around,'' he said.

''We have seen a number of people go for a walk around the park (Alexandra Gardens) and then come over for a swim.

''With all the warm weather we've been having it's a good way to cool off.''

The Ararat Solar Olympic Pool opens at 10am each day.
