ARARAT - Rising squash star Aidan Marr will head to Sydney later this year after being selected to compete in the Australian Junior Championships.
At 13 years of age, Marr is one of the youngest competitors in the Victorian Tour Group.
He will travel to Sydney in September, where he will compete against some of Australia's best junior players in the Under 15 division.
Marr has had an impressive year, finishing 10th in the state rankings. He has also won numerous tournaments in higher grades, including a B grade competition at the Melbourne Aquatic Centre last week.
Whilst Marr's impressive performances were what ultimately secured him a place in the Tour Group, his dedication to the sport was also taken into consideration.
Marr's father Ally said his son had demonstrated significant commitment over the past two months.
''In the last six to eight weeks he has really taken that next step,'' Mr Marr said.
''He was picked because of his commitment and his attitude.''
Marr's commitment has seen him travel to Melbourne every six weeks to participate in the Talent Development Squad (TDS) run by Squash Vic. He also trains every Sunday morning.
Marr has thanked squash coach Richard Cagliarini for his guidance and is hoping to pursue a long career in the sport.
The Australian Junior Squash Championships will be held in Sydney from September 25- September 29.
