Mininera toast to 2009 best and fairest

MDNA - The Mininera and District Netball Association capped off its 2009 home and away season with the league vote count and presentation evening, held at the Glenthompson Hall.

SMW Rovers' centre Andrea Collins celebrated her first season in the league by taking out the A grade best and fairest.

Collins was a clear winner, polling 32 votes, while Wickliffe-Lake Bolac's Brooke Clark (25) snatched the runner up award from Glenthompson-Dunkeld's Emma Sommerville (24).

Excitement was high in the A grade count, with second and third place coming down to the last round of votes.

Clark also took out the MVP award, which recognises the player who receives the most votes from opposition coaches.

Clark won the award with a total of 13 votes, while SMW Rovers' goal defence Sarah Higgins and Caramut centre Kaye Jenkins, both finished on 12 votes.

Glenthompson-Dunkeld goal attack Rebecca Schwarz took out the B grade best and fairest, polling 24 votes to edge out Penshurst goal defence Kathy Mibus on 23 votes and Woorndoo-Mortlake's Zena Allan on 22.

Joanne Rentsch was a deserved winner of the C grade award, polling an impressive 30 votes.

Rentsch finished ahead of SMW Rovers' goal defence Emma Broadbent on 28 votes and team mate Narelle Rentsch on 27 votes.

Glenthompson-Dunkeld's goal attack Tamara Phillips polled 25 votes.

Moyston Willaura conquered the junior grades, with goal defence Kaitlin Brain winning the 16 and under award with 38 votes, ahead of Hawksdale Macarthur's Stephanie Watson on 35 votes.

Mary Butler was awarded the 13 and under award polling 26 votes, five clear of Tatyoon's Zoe Astbury.
