Series' finals at Thursday's harness racing meeting

13 Oct, 2009 08:47 AM
ARARAT - The fields for this Thursday's Ararat Harness Club meeting were not finalised at the time of print, however there are two races which are continuation of heats from the October 4 meeting.

The first of these is the third heat of the Stallion Station Pacific Fella Pace Series. The field will be made up of the horses that finished in the top five in each of the heats and the fastest sixth placing. The other sixth placing will be the emergency.

The first heat winner was One Bad Dude trained by Peter Manning and driven by Kerryn Manning.

It defeated Meet the President by 2.1 metres with a further 6 metres to the third placed Ultimate Tycoon.

Coming fourth and fifth were Harbacat and Star Schema, with Kevin Brough's Kimiko Three having a tough run in the heat, sitting outside the leader for most of the race before fading out just prior to the finish.

The second heat of the Stallion Station Pacific Fella Pace was taken out by Noah Riley by a half head just getting up to defeat Seven Diamonds in the last few strides.

Third was Janszoon followed in by Hale and Handsome and the Peter Lugg owned first starter Makeminemelbourne ran a solid race at its first outing to take fifth place.

The final of the Stallion Station Pace carries prize money of $6500 plus a $2000 breeding voucher to any of the sixteen stallions standing at the Tullamarine Breeding complex.

The $2000 breeding voucher will be presented by former Test cricketer Les Joslin, now general manager of Stallion Station.

Stallion Station will provide two $1000 breeding vouchers for the heat winners, which will also be presented at the Thursday meeting.

The other series of heats conducted at the October 4 meeting was the Spiller Family Sprint Series, which attracted sufficient starters to run three heats.

Red Opal took out the first heat, narrowly defeating Alaro and Hobbit County.

The Kerryn Manning trained and driven Sterita won the second, which will again be a very strong contender in the final.

Another form horse with good winning prospects will be the second placegetter in this heat, Fancy Falcon, who only just failed to catch Sterita.

Tellmesomethingood made up the placings.

The third heat of this series was taken out by Jamie Stewart's consistent Whattabluff, who just got up after a tough run to defeat Tales of Courage by a half head with My Exaltation a neck away third.

The barrier draw will play a part in the chances in this 1790- metre event, although the horses that won the previous heats will all be strong winning prospects.

The Spiller Family Sprint Series, as the title suggests, is sponsored by the Spiller family of Ararat who have been involved with the Ararat Harness Racing Club for many years.

The patriarch of the family is 98-year-old Albert, a former committeeman and track curator, who the club hopes will be able to attend the meeting.

The Spiller family is providing an inscribed dress rug and a trophy to the winning connections.

The Yuruga Breeding Complex managed by Matt Clarke at Great Western will also be providing an inscribed dress rug to the winner of the main event of the evening.

Yuruga are able to access semen from stallions throughout Australia and New Zealand for mares arriving at their complex during the breeding season.
