ARARAT -Only the very brave battled the elements for round three of the Grampians Hockey Association winter competition on Saturday.
Conditions were horrible at the Gordon Street Oval, forcing players to play a controlled and skilful game.
In the junior competition, Cathcart scraped through to win three goals to two over Langi Ghiran, while Rhymney maintained their winning streak, defeating Mafeking eight goals to zero.

It was a wet and cold morning but both teams took to the field with enthusiasm.
It was a very even game, with both teams playing to the conditions and playing a great team game, passing the ball and creating opportunities for each other.
Magnus Baker played a strong game and showed great leadership and team skills.
Scott Toogood scored two goals and Brigitta Hodgetts scored one.
Samuel Bohner played a fantastic game for Langi, scoring a goal assisted by Jake McKew.
Rhymney v Mafeking
It was a tough game for Mafeking who were valiant in defeat.
An in-form Marcus Johnston, Bessie Baker and Brittany Patterson led the attack with Georgette Baker helping out scoring one goal.
Michael Todd was gallant in defence, but was unable to stem the flow of the Rhymney onslaught.
In the senior competition, the undefeated Rhymney continued its run, defeating Ironbarks eight goals to three, while Langi Ghiran secured a solid five goals to one victory over Cathcart.

Ben Lewis was a relentless scoring force, scoring all eight of Rhymney's goals.
The Australian representative is relishing in the training conditions provided at Gordon Street Oval.
Ironbarks played a good game, but were unable to shut down the offensive prowess of Lewis.
Nathan Folkes scored two goals for Ironbarks, assisted by Zach Jaench.
Langi Ghiran v Cathcart
With both teams still win-less for the season, both teams were enthused to make their presence felt on the ladder.
Langi Ghiran displayed some form reminiscent of last year's season.
Langi had a full team and played a fantastic team game.
Jono Provis Vincent (three goals) and Jamie Taylor (two goals) controlled the centre of the field, shutting down the dangerous Cathcart duo of Michael Colley and Gary Baker.
Colley and Baker did a good job feeding their forwards, but the solid defence of Chris Provis Vincent, Sam Brown and Tony Hillier stopped any possible scoring chances.
