ARARAT - Heats of the prestigious Decron Hoof Care Tontine Pacers Series provides a strong background to a quality eight-race program at the Russell T White Raceway tonight.
Other feature events on the card include the Peter Moody Racing Pace, the third heat of the Harness Racing Sports Club Provincial Cup and the Harness Breeders Pace.
The first event, which starts at 6.32pm, is the Peter Moody Racing Pace for four year olds, which has several strong prospects. The best of these is the Kerryn Manning trained and driven The Left Arm Quick, which is returning from a spell, the Nathan Jack driven Ollington and Rod Summers' Cruisin Luxury.
Peter Moody, who is a close connection of committee member Milton McKinnis, will be in attendance to present an inscribed rug to the winning connections.
The $100,000-plus Tontine Pacers Series has been a feature event on the racing calendar of south west Victorian clubs for the past 30 or more years.
The Tontine series is a major attraction to trainers with good horses on their way through the classes, due to the substantial prizes on offer.
Both events present with many winning chances. Not only are there a number of the best C2/C4 horses in the series but a number of the best reinsmen and women in Australia are also driving a number of the better chances in the races, including Kerryn Manning, Gavin Lang, Daryl Douglas, Chris Alford and Jodi Quinlan.
The fourth event, the HRSC Provincial Cup heat, presents with several winning chances, including Kerryn Manning's Irish Philosophy, which has been in consistent form of late.
Other chances are David Murphy's Sheez the Barmaid and Louis Franc's The Husk.
Kickittochris looks a winner again in the Ararat Pacing Cup 24 March Pace, with Narkoola a sound chance from its draw.
The final race looks to be between the Glen Douglas pair Vintage Direct and Spinalong, and Tony Pullicino's Lombo Limo.
Punters may do well to follow Peter Moody's tips, as he is well renowned for his good judgment of horses.
