ARARAT - Despite last week's high temperatures, a field of 42 players turned out to contest a stroke event at the Chalambar Golf Club.
Kevin Tassell was one golfer who welcomed the heat, rising to the top in A grade with a score of 73-10-63.
Tassell won comfortably from Dale Bligh who finished with a respectable 80-13-67.
In B grade, Roy McKinnis also had a good win with a score of 90-24-66, defeating Des Hull, 92-22-70.
Consolation balls were won by Matt Collins, Phil Robets and Bruce Toddun, all with scores of 68. Nearest the pins were awarded to Scott Turner on the second, Brett Scott on the sixth, Peter Kerr on the eighth, Ken Farrar on the 15th, Matt Collins on the 16th and Peter Shearer on the 18th. The eagle's nest was won by Matt Collins on the 10th hole while Bruce Toddun took out the vet's birdie hole.
Last Thursday's 18 hole stableford saw Tilla Horvath victorious on 44 points. Stuart Muller claimed runner-up honours on a count back from Ian Tucker after both players scored 40 points. Peter Kerr took out the nine hole chicken run on 24, while Noel Davidson, Merv Shalders and Tony Rees all scored 22.
This week's event is the Scott Cameron Three Man Ambrose, with a shot gun start commencing at 12.30pm.
