ARARAT - Alwyn Kitchen proved she could stand the heat during Chalambar Golf Club's ladies' competition last Wednesday.

Kitchen finished with a score of 99-29-70 for the scheduled stroke event to be named winner of the fifth round of the Summer Brooch.

She top scored in the B grade division ahead of Barb Mannix on 108-36-72, who earned her runner up status on countback from Ceal Gubbins (107-35-72) and Marilyn Brady (102-30-72).

Margot Green (90-19-71) was determined the A grade winner on countback from Sandra Brady (90-24-71) while nearest the pins were awarded to Barb Gow (2nd, 16th), Rene Hamilton (8th, 2nd shot) and Jane Richardson (18th).

Twenty-six ladies contested the event in glorious weather, playing 18 holes on both the new and old fairways.

Eighteen ladies played in last Monday's nine-hole competition, with Marilyn Brady stealing the win with 20 points on countback from Elaine Richie.

Brady was also nearest the pin on the sixth hole.

Tomorrow's event will be the scheduled Scottish three-person stableford, draw for partner event.

Tee off will be at the later time of 9.30am.
