A Rat's Tale - Barb Panther

Barb has played the sport for the past 26 years, and for 20 years was also a star hockey and squash player.

During her affiliation with Aradale Golf Club, Barb has given her time and service for 12 years as secretary of the ladies committee.

She was also ladies president for two years.

Barb is currently the club handicapper and has been the Aradale Golf Club secretary for the past eight years.

Away from the golf course she also loves to watch sport, mainly football and cricket, and enjoys Sudoku and code cracker puzzles as a way to unwind.

In 1997 Barb and husband Daryl opened a wildlife park and zoo in the Grampians, which she said was a wonderful and rewarding experience, but required a lot of hard work.

Since selling the business in 2007 the couple has been enjoying lots of holidays and plenty of rounds of golf.

***

My fondest childhood memory is my two sisters and I organising a concert in our garage. We practised for weeks and had food and tickets organised, but forgot about handing out the tickets for an audience.

When I was younger I thought I would grow up to be a manager of a business or a store so I wouldn't have to do any of the work!

My dream holiday destination is outback Australia.

Three things I couldn't live without are food, drink and family.

I consider my greatest achievement in life to be winning a Victoria-wide golf event called International Bowl Bronze Division. My score was 88-30-58 nett. Also caring for injured native wildlife for about 20 years.

The most embarrassing item in my wardrobe is a collection of belts that I have never worn but am unable to throw out.

If I wanted to impress a dinner guest I would cook beef lasagne with a tossed salad and berry cheese cake for desert.

The greatest lesson I have learned in life is as we are all different, respect that people's ways may be different to mine and to never put any person down as I wouldn't like it done to me.

If I wasn't me, I would like to be Nicole Kidman.

The song I most wish I had written is Girls Night Out by The Judds.

Something not many people know about me is I love music, karaoke and enjoy my volunteer work at the Ararat Retirement Village.

Three things on my bucket list are to visit the Northern Territory, the North Island in New Zealand and to learn to waltz.

If I died tomorrow at least I could say I have enjoyed my life with my husband raising two great sons, and enjoyed all close friendships with close friends.

If I could have one super power it would be to cure sick people and animals.

No wonder you are still my best friend. (even if you don't take me on holidays with you!) Always happy and thoughtful. You're a beautiful person Barb and I'm very lucky to be a part of your lifes journey. :)
