ARARAT - Ararat cyclist Zoe Nicholson is hopeful of qualifying for the Victorian track team for the first time after excelling at the Victorian Junior State Track Championships last weekend.

The 15-year-old picked up two bronze medals in the junior women's 17 division over the two days of the competition, which was held at the Darebin International Sports Centre in Melbourne.

Nicholson walked away with bronze medals for the sprint and pursuit events after taking on some of the best female cyclists in her age group in the state.

She also placed fourth in the scratch final and fifth in the time trial.

Fellow Ararat cyclists Lucas Hamilton and Caiden Hull participated in the junior men's 17 division.

Hamilton narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the pursuit final.

The trio is awaiting the announcement of the state team to contest the Australian Junior Track Championships in Melbourne between March 14 and 17.

Hull made the national track team in 2011, while Nicholson and Hamilton have represented Victoria in road racing.

Ararat and District Cycling Club member, Jaron Gardiner is currently representing Victoria in the 2012 Subaru Cycling Australia Track National Championships.

Gardiner is in good company, with some of the country's best cyclists contesting the four day event, which began in Adelaide yesterday and runs until Sunday.

Ararat and District Cycling Club is preparing for the Cycling Victoria Junior Club Teams Championships on Sunday, February 18.

President Graeme Nicholson said the Ararat club would enter a combined junior 11 group, with the possibility of having a junior 13 team.
