Records set at interclub shoot

28/11/2008 9:18:00 AM
REGION - The annual Ararat and Stawell Interclub Teams' Shoot was held last Saturday in very windy, cold and taxing conditions.

Fifty one real shooters contested at least one event, with 25 firing in all matches to create a new participation record.

Competition commenced at the Pistol Club with a timed metallic match, before shooters moved to the Ararat Rifle Range, with 10 shots fired in very difficult conditions, a strong blustery wind affecting windage and elevation.

Later in the afternoon saw a ten shot match at the Albert Street 20 metres range.

Sunday witnessed two shot gun events, 25 targets at the Ararat Clay Target Club followed by a further 25 target event at the Field and Game Minga Range.

Despite the shoot being a teams' event there is always great interest in the top individual scorers, this year Wayne Crawford taking the honours from last year's winner the evergreen Billy Joiner.

International Andrew McCready fired well despite a lack of practise over the last couple of years, while the highlight of the weekend was the presentations, very ably carried out by Olympian Sue McCready who has also shot many times for Australia at the Commonwealth Games.

- Results:

Pistol Club 2440 points

Small Bore 2302

Big Bore 2191

Shot Gun 2023
