GCA - Swifts/Great Western late yesterday emerged with the Grampians Cricket Association's A grade 2009/2010 premiership title.
The Combine confirmed their domination of the competition this season, despite a number of delays due to the condition of the Central Park wicket and rain delays over the three days of the final.
At one stage late yesterday it appeared Tatyoon may snatch a surprise victory, when with a little more than an hour to play they were 6/102.
However, the Combine's bowlers hit back and Marc Brilliant and Jackson Dark wrapped up a memorable grand final victory dismissing Tatyoon for 120 runs, claiming back-to-back premierships.
After delays because of the condition of the wicket and because of rain on all three days of the grand final, umpires deemed play would continue if required through until seven o'clock last night, light permitting.
Heavy rain last Friday saw water seep under the covers and this forced a delay of 90 minutes of play on Saturday. The opening day's play was scheduled to start at 11am.
When play did commence it was slow going for Swifts/Great Western, who were sent into bat by Tatyoon.
The Tatyoon bowlers toiled away and sent down 82 overs, with the Swifts innings closing at 2/116.
On Sunday play started soon after 11am and when rain stopped play soon after tea Swifts/Great Western's innings had moved to 6/194 and they appeared to be in a strong position.
The start to the final day yesterday was also delayed after the rain on Sunday again saw water seep under the covers.
Play finally began at just before 2pm and the Tatyoon bowlers took control.
Led by paceman Tim McDougall, who picked up three wickets, Tatyoon dismissed the Combine in a matter of 45 minutes for a score of 218 runs.
Tatyoon did struggle early in its innings before a mid-innings revival from Aaron Jenkins (23) and Tim McDougall (35no).
Marc Brilliant was the leading wicket taker for the Combine with his match winning bag of six wickets.
