Aradale's wish granted

26 Feb, 2010 08:08 AM
ARARAT - Aradale Cricket Club has received a $1,000 cash grant and $750 worth of equipment through the Commonwealth Bank's Grants for Grassroots Cricket Program.

Commonwealth Bank Branch (Ararat) manager Grant Johnson presented club representatives with the cheque and equipment at a special presentation last week.

The Grants for Grassroots Cricket Program commenced this year and saw 200 clubs rewarded by the Commonwealth Bank.

Mr Johnson said over 1,400 applications had been received from grassroots cricket clubs across Australia.

''The Commonwealth Bank has supported cricket in Australia for over 23 years and we are proud to support cricket at all levels, from grandstands such as the men's and women's national teams and Commonwealth Bank series to the grassroots,'' he said.

''With the announcement of all winners nationally, we also recognise grant recipients from around Australia, from suburban and rural, junior and senior, women's and men's clubs, drought and fire affected areas and indigenous clubs.''

Mr Johnson said the Aradale Cricket Club was a deserving recipient of the grant.

''Today we're here to recognise the Aradale Cricket Club as an important part of our community,'' he said.

''We thank you for making a difference in our community (and) wish you well for the remainder of the season.''

The $1,000 grant will be used to help develop the future of cricket in Ararat.

''Cricket is an important part of Ararat and the grant will be of great assistance to ensure local cricketers have the opportunity to continue to play the sport they love,'' Mr Johnson said.
