ARARAT - Tonight's public meeting to save the Ararat Solar Olympic Pool has been described as 'do or die' by organisers.
The entire Ararat community is urged to attend the event.
The meeting will take place at the Alexandra Oval grandstand at 7pm.
Two of the people behind the campaign for the retention of the pool, Ambrose Cashin and Maddy Vernon believe if no-one attends the meeting, the chances of the pool reopening for season 2012/2013 - or at any time in the future - are limited.
Mr Cashin and Ms Vernon have both said the $4.171 million quoted by council as the cost of redeveloping the pool and surrounding facilities is inflated and that the money could be spent more wisely with the community called on to provide in-kind labour for some of the work.
The format of the meeting will be to gauge the support in the community for the retention of the pool.
To see what in-kind work people would be willing to carry out and set up a committee to begin fundraising and to liaise with council.
The meeting will also alleviate misconceptions and rumours circulating regarding the state of the pool and its facilities.
A free barbecue will be provided by the Rotary Club of Ararat at the conclusion of the meeting.
