Prostate cancer conference

24 Nov, 2009 09:05 AM
ARARAT - Ararat Prostate Cancer Support group was well represented at the recent Victorian and Tasmanian Chapter of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Conference held in Ballarat.

Merv Fox and David Holcombe and their partners Kay and Wendy along with the group's facilitator, Leonie Tellefson from East Grampians Health Service attended the two day conference with 80 others affected by prostate cancer from all over Victoria and Tasmania.

The conference was held at the Belltower Motel and the program provided presentations from speakers well respected in their fields and many opportunities to network with members of other groups.

Both Mr Holcombe and Mr Fox agreed that the presentation on depression by David Juriansz of Beyond Blue was excellent, and the information along with that from Cancer Council of Victoria will be valuable for the local group.

Ararat's visiting urologist, Dr Lydia Johns Putra, spoke of future directions in Prostate Cancer treatment. Her presentation and her manner dealing with a range of questions at the forum led to many comments from delegates of how fortunate those who have access to her services are.

Anyone interested in more information about the local group or details of the conference can contact Leonie Tellefson at the EGHS Community Centre, 5352 9327.
